Tea Meditation

Tea is an act complete in its simplicity.

When I drink tea, there is only me and the tea.
The rest of the world dissolves.
There are no worries about the future.
No dwelling on past mistakes.
Tea is simple: loose leaf tea, hot pure water, a cup.
I inhale the scent, tiny delicate pieces of the tea floating above the cup.
I drink the tea, the essence of the leaves becoming a part of me.
I am informed by the tea, changed.
This is the act of life, in one pure moment, and in this act the truth of the world suddenly becomes revealed: all the complexity, pain, drama of life is a pretense, invented in our minds for no good purpose.
There is only the tea, and me, converging.

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

The cup of tea in your hands is a vessel for nature's gift. Feel the warmth of the cup in your hands as you hold it close. Notice the weight of the cup, the smoothness of the ceramic.

Bring the cup to your nose and inhale the aroma of the tea. Notice the delicate fragrances of the leaves and flowers. Allow the aroma to fill your senses and calm your mind.

Take a sip of the tea and let the essence of the leaves wash over you. Feel the warmth of the tea in your throat and stomach. Notice the taste of the tea as it unfurls on your tongue.

As you drink the tea, be present with the moment. Notice the sensations in your body, the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Allow yourself to be drawn into the rhythm of the tea ritual.

Tea meditation is a simple yet powerful way to connect with yourself and with nature. It is a way to find stillness and peace in the midst of a busy world.

Every sip brings you a step closer to your self.
